Hindustan Zinc Showcases Advanced Mining Operations at India International Trade Fair 2024, New Delhi

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer and the third-largest silver producer, showcased its technologically advanced mining operations in the heart of Delhi, in the Mines Pavilion at the 43rd India International Trade Fair. The event served as a platform to highlight the company’s significant contributions to India’s growth as a global production hub and its commitment to sustainable development.

During this 14-day event, numerous dignitaries and ministers from various departments were fascinated by Hindustan Zinc’s exhibit. Notably, Shri G Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Shri Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines visited the stall and witnessed the company’s high-quality zinc products on display.

Engineers, mining enthusiasts and students were drawn to the company’s showcase where they witnessed a comprehensive demonstration of the entire mining process through engaging exhibits and model mining equipment. They also got a chance to experience and understand the company’s digital-first and technologically evolved approach towards mining.

A major attraction was the pavilion’s experience zone, that featured a cutting-edge VR simulator, the first-of-its kind procured by Hindustan Zinc. This immersive technology offers visitors a realistic glimpse into the operation of Hindustan Zinc’s Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM). Designed to train mining operators, the simulator prepares them for diverse underground conditions, reflecting our commitment to enhancing safety and driving smart, efficient operations across the business. 

Samples of Sphalerite (zinc ore) and Galena (lead and silver ore), that had the crowds fascinated, alongside the company’s high-quality products like Special High-Grade (SHG) Zinc, various alloys and EcoZen – Asia’s first low carbon ‘green zinc’ were displayed at the company’s stall. A notable highlight was the exhibit of Zinc Retorts, inverted clay pots used for distillation of Zinc, dating back 2,500 years, which were unique to Zawar (Rajasthan), where the company also operates. The company also showcased an installation illustrating various applications of zinc, demonstrating the journey from mining to final applications that make modern life possible.

Additionally, Hindustan Zinc demonstrated its commitment to community development by showcasing products developed under its social impact initiative aimed at empowering rural women – Project Sakhi. These included locally produced namkeens, pickles, ghee, honey and textiles, by the women from self-help groups, which were all available for sale and flew off the shelves. The company’s strategic community welfare interventions focus on education, health, women’s empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods, positively impacting over 20 lakh people across 237 villages.
